Hi guys, picked up my 3rd DT (I’m hooked) at this years vintage days event at mid Ohio.  I got a 74 DT360A that is pretty much complete except for a carb slide, spring, needle and retaining clip.  I called up Sudco, and talking with them they made it sound like finding a needle was going to be tough.  I was able to measure the inside diameter of the bore on my carb and order a slide and retaining clip plate that should work from them, but the needle is what I’m wondering about.  The VM30SS carb calls for a 5EJ8 needle but the only ones I’m finding on eBay are for Kawasakis.  Can I get away with using the one attached?

I didn’t think it would be this difficult to get a couple carb parts!

Mikuni 5EJ8 is a Mikuni 5EJ8.  Period.

Mikuni tuning manual will explain the needle tapers at least a little bit...

make sure your main and pilot are at least as large as what's specified.
I used a #55 vs #50 for pilot, I think it runs better
but my main point is if your main is too small you can melt you piston, which I did with a #140 main in place!
