74 DT250 Replacement Coil was created by maraakate

Hey everyone,

My 74 DT250 needs a new coil.  What's a reputable vendor?

Thanks!

personally, I would get a used one off eBay  because I believe that the original Yamaha coils are much better than any new Chinese POS

To stir the pot, i've had no problems with cheapy chinese coils & used a few. Even on my lawn mower. Went for the cheapest [coil box combined as modern mowers are] It arrived & holes were a few mm out each end because i didn't research things right!!. So i slowly elongated the slots till it fitted & gave it a hacksaw blade air gap to the magnets. Never looked back. Starts first pull & been going for years.

I originally bought a cheap $10 coil on ebay and it sparked but wouldn't start the bike. I found an older thread on here where someone recommended using the EMGO-branded universal coils with success. I bought one of those for about $15 and works just fine. I didn't fab anything, just enlarged the hole slightly on the coil and mounted it one of the retainers on the frame where the original coil was. Works just fine.

PS: I guess my spam folder intercepted messages with regards to notifications to this topic. Apologies for thinking I asked a question then bailed.

Also for future reference avoid this coil:

It does indeed mount up just fine to a DT250 frame and generates spark, but apparently not powerful enough to actually run the bike. Waste of time.

Never had a problem with chinese cheap coils. Now its running try the cheap coil just to double check it wasn't just flooded up in the first place, or something.
Pic of the coil & the brand [if it had a brand] would be good please.

I did try that, the coil is junk. Measuring the junk coil with meter was reading 0.7ohm. The ebay link is what it looked like. No brand name and it came in a generic plastic bag with no logo, etc.

Maybe because I am new user with a low post count I am not allowed to post links. Here is the ebay item number: 174938713990. You can just type that in the search box on ebay and it will come right up.

Ha, that doesn't work either for me. Just says no exact match found. Tried with & without the full stop on the end. Might be due to the auction/sale finishing although don't think so, should hang around for some time. No matter.
