1980 Yamaha 250 mx was created by damicles

Is there a slimmer seat I can buy ,have thought of making my own if I could get a seat base, have the foam and leather. What’s the thinking on making a seat base out of fibre glass. Many thanks.

In theory, no problem at all with what you're proposing - a lot of repro seats are made of fibreglass.

I guess ideally you'll need an old original base, just to line up the mounts and any clearances needed. Other than that, you can style it to your own requirements.

Would be good if you could document progress here, as I'm sure that some members will find it a) interesting and b) something that they have considered doing themselves.

A lot of custom seats for the RDs etc are made in Asia and these are listed on fleabay - not sure if they are made for the enduro bikes, though.

Might regret going too thin in the foam, can't beat comfort even if you need to stretch a bit to reach the ground. Just sayin. In fact i have a "too thin" base on my Rat 360 & just about rattled my teeth out with vibes--but old 360's do vibrate, unlike your 250. Could shorten the rear shock a little & fit a 19 in the front plus slide the forks up a bit. Think i've said all that recently in a similar post--i'm losing it lol.
