New Toy but will this Carb swap work? was created by bhepp15
I picked up a new toy this recent weekend. My dt3 doesn't have enough wheels for the SD winters so I picked up a YT175 1983 three-wheeler. It runs when warm but doesn't idle and has an eBay carb (gross) so I tore it apart to find it not even close to the stock jet sized in the eBay carb. The main is supposed to be a 165 and it had a 110 in. The pilot didn't even have a number on it but I have the stock carb that has a 40 pilot in it. The stock carb is missing quite a few parts including the choke but I have a dt175f carburetor that fits the stock jets from the three-wheeler so I have put the three-wheeler jets in the dt175f carb. I can't find the 175f carb specs and sizes in the tech library so I'm not sure they are the same size but they look similar. Just wondering if there is anything else I should do to the dt carb besides set the float height before installing in the three-wheeler. I know this isnt a enduro post but atleast it has an enduro carb haha. Also I bought this carb when I picked up the dt175 with a blown top end. He claimed the carb leaked gas and blew the top end but I figured if i set the floats and check the needle valve it should be fine. thanks for the help as always.

You will have ALOT of fun with that Tri-Moto when you get it running right ....... (We had two of them when I was a teenager).
It's a "Wheelie King"...........drive around for miles with the front end up in the air.

They're a menace those things, dangerous weapons so be very carefull out there. We sold them new & oneday years later a customer arrived saying he couldn't start it after replacing the pull start rope. So of course i gave it a try & it kicked back on the rope so bloody hard it stuffed my shoulder for the next 40 year & still easily upset. So what noddy customer had done was missed the small guide pulley just inside that reverses the direction of the spin. For it to hook up he must've been clever enough to reverse the pawls i guess for it to engage. I dunno--i fixed it all & never forgot it. No20 in link.

I have a destroyed knee cap to prove it from a Honda 250R. Such a blast but there's a reason they don't make them anymore. Guy I sold it to accused me of trying to kill him but that's a story for another day.

I have heard many stories about them and maybe I should start a thread on three wheeler stories because they always seem to be good. I hooked up the dt175 carb today but it was -10 Fahrenheit here and did not start. I’m going to chalk it up to temperature and wait for a warmer day.

I got it running today in only a couple of pulls and it even idled after some tinkering. For some reason, it is missing power and I couldnt figure out where. It was bogging and didn't have the jump it had before. I am going to mess with the mixture and hopefully the works but who knows. At least it had enough power for some wheelies and I rode until I couldn't feel my hands anymore!

Got it running again today as it was above freezing. I messed with the mixture and it seemed to have helped maybe slightly. I don't know if I should go any leaner because the manual calls for a1.5 turns out but it isn't the stock carb so maybe it needs more. Any ideas on anything else I can mess with except the mixture or maybe just make it a little leaner slowly? Thanks for the help
