update:

while waiting on the float bowl gasket to come in I used a screw extractor to get the pilot jet out. Although it had always been clear, I figure at this point I might as well. I ordered a new jet (#60) and dipped the carb body in the ultrasonic cleaner for another 20min followed by carb cleaner and air through every passage. every passage is clean and clear.

I also double checked the timing and was able to get it within ~0.1-0.2mm of spec.

Hopefully the parts come in before the new year, i'll keep you posted!

I just put a new float bowl gasket and pilot jet in. The carb is perfectly clean.

It still won't start! The spark plug even has gas on it when I pull it.

I'm going to start a new "won't start" thread for this specific issue. I know, I know, "wont' start" threads are everyone's favorite...but I appreciate the help!
