Hi All, I’m doing a motor refresh on a DT125A project and when I pulled the top end there was scoring on the piston and cylinder. I started looking for somewhere to hone the cylinder but then I started thinking, if I’m spending money for a hone and new piston should I just go ahead and do the old DT175 top end swap instead?

Two questions: if I do the swap what other changes need to be made? Carb? If you’d recommend a hone of the original cylinder can anyone recommend a place near Chicago or a shop I can ship to that you’ve used and has reasonable prices? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Carb is the same for the DT125 and DT175 The only difference is several Jet sizes as displayed in the attached.

Depending on the scoring and wear you'll probably want to get it bored to the nearest oversize that will clean it up and give you a fresh bore.

175 conversion is worth it if you can find a cylinder and head.  Not a difficult swap so might be good to fix yours and look for parts.

Appreciate the advice all! Not many good options on eBay so I’ll try posting a “WTB DT175 top end” in the buy/sell forum to see if one of our fellow fanatics has one
