Dt400 exhaust was created by Biggles

Sorry, me again.  Struggling to get the exhaust off my DT400.  Bolts off etc, all good, but can't fit the flange through the frame. Am I right in thinking the flange is separate from the exhaust and so should rotate to help with getting it through?   Didn't want to go at it too hammer and tong before someone that knows gave me the nod.  Or is there a technique I'm missing?  My "Haynes" workshop manual basically just says remove the exhaust.....really useful.
