1971 DT1 MX Restoration Questions was created by dk3966
I am in the process of restoring a 1971 DT1 MX. I just got the frame back from powder coat and I am starting to put it back together and I had the following questions that I could not find an answer to anywhere. So I'm here to ask the experts.
Did the 1971 DT1 MX 250cc come with a tool box?
Did it come with a fork lock?
If so are there any available anywhere? used or new?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

I'm looking forward to your project. The '71 frames did not have a steering lock. I believe the MX model did not have a tool box.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Thanks, there is a "bung" on the steering neck for a steering lock..... that's what made me curious.
I am sure it is a 1971 frame etc as I have a title and matching numbers.....

My 71 DT1 MX does not have a bung for a steering lock, are you sure it is a 71?

Just in case you haven't done so already, check your frame number against the VIN tables in the Tech Library on this forum - that will confirm exactly what model you have.

Steering lock was not added to frame until 1973.if I remember correctly.
Lots of bikes out there have had "restamped" frames... posting pictures of what you're looking at in terms of a lock and the actual VIN stamp might help solve the mystery.

Without pictures and verification that the VIN is between DT1F-90101 and DT1F-93684 there is no way to verify your frame as original. I am hoping Enduronut sees this and he can provide his expert opinion, but I do not believe there is any way that this is an original 1971 MX frame with a factory installed steering lock. It is possible someone added one after the fact but hard to imagine why.
My 71 DT1 MX is VIN DT1F-91726 which falls close to the middle of the run, there is no steering lock.
