Two Stroke Oil Opinions was created by Gearboy
I know this is a subject that may get a zillion opinions but I want to hear what some of you think. Mechanic friend that has raced and repaired many vintage Yamahas recommends Yamalube 2S in my CT1. I have used Amsoil Dominator in the past with other bikes and am considering changing. Opinions/recommendations?

I’m not savvy enough to vary from what Yamaha recommends. I use the appropriate Yamalube oil in the oil tank and crankcase.

I use Yamalube oil on my autolube bikes and I use Amsoil on my premix bikes. I wasn't confident that the oil volume that is metering thru the autolube pump would be based on the modern technology of Amsoil.

Just keep using what you've been happy with unless there's a good reason to change.

I'm staying out of this one except to link to an article on why you probably shouldn't use dominator.

I found the above article after noticing Amsoil themselves does not recommend dominator for some engines like outboards unless they are periodically inspected.

2S works very well on my 4 1975 DT's. Minimal smoke after warm up. And someone always has it on sale. No need to over complicate an oil choice. All my bikes are predominantly street ridden and have the Autolube working. Now the premix guys may have a different answer.

I've used Motul, Maxima and am now using Castrol Power 1 Racing 2T as it for both premix and autolube, so it suits both my dirt and road bikes

I just spoke to my friend the mechanic. He said to stick with the Yamalube 2S, which was in the autolube tank. He said if you change oil you run the risk of the rings sticking.

Both my bikes are premix the 78 dt250 gets castrol garden 2t at 20:1 my 89 Kdx200 with fresh engine and fresh nicasil coated bore gets penrite race caster at 32:1 probay won't want to put them in an auto lube setup use something made to go on an oil pump system caster isn't good in autolube either but it does smell glorious haha
