I did take the reeds out and check them, ordered boyesons just because. They seemed fine and all my revving problems were solved with opening up the restricted air supply.

This is what we did years ago to get more air but I would try MarkT idea first.

That vent idea would overcome any--seat collapsed on the airbox inlet trick--. If i'm on the right post.

Boyesen reeds are worse for HP than stock on the smaller bike at least. They will give you a boost at lower RPM. I'd stay with the originals if they're ok.

JammyYammy, how did the 2.5 slide work out? And how about your slide extension, did that work as well.
I’d think that the difference in slide length wouldn’t really matter as long as it is long enough so as not to cock to one side and stick which seems pretty unlikely.
Years (decades) ago I put a new filter in my 87 CR250 and dirt wiggled its way through it and stuck the slide open, those were some very tense moments indeed!!! I found out how quickly they like to go over backwards!

That vent idea would overcome any--seat collapsed on the airbox inlet trick--. If i'm on the right post.

I took the air cleaner cover off the right side of the bike and where the triangular air cleaner sits up against the air box cover  there was enough room around the top two bolt holes to effectively put more holes there outside of where the filter sealed up against the cover so I put some 3/8th holes and that did the trick. I’ve got a good idea on how to alter the plate under the seat so it looks professional and functional as well.

Slide extension is absolutely necessary when putting a short slide into a "tall cap" carb...  modifying the cable and using the short cap is fine too.

I used a short slide once in a tall top carb but be careful even using a short cap on that as I still needed to compress a circlip in the top of the body because the tall cap body on mine had an unthreaded portion that an Oring in the tall cap seals on when screwed down. The circlip "by long term memory" was the deciding factor as to whether the slide came above the guide pin. Only just but only just is just too much as slide will turn & then ya stuck on full song. Just my experience so double check things that's all.
