My guess is that it's actually an aftermarket barrel/cylinder/jug.

While it is fun and educational to read these posts I am interested in the attached photo and the camshaft in the background. I can't help but wonder what engine it goes in and how THAT rebuild is going?

Old wiseco pistons from the 70s 80s are much different then the new ones and they had to put more clearence because they expanded alot , and many guys back then did not put enough clearence in the bore and would seize alot . New wiseo pistons are a high silica content aluminum and do NOT require alot of cleaerance cuz they dont expand alot like the old ones did. And there fore are quiet. Even the newer TRW - Speed pro are not like the old ones , SRP also (same compamy as wiseco) are high silica aluminum. If you get into the Ross or other racing pistons fo auto they a a more malleable aluminum and gwo alot , if they were not then they would crack under the extreme use they must endure . Sorry I get carried away with auto stuff.

It's a fair cop guvna! The camshaft is from another project (BSA A65 Spitfire) which I was hoping to get on the road for the summer but realized it wasn't gonna happen in time so I bought the DT400 to ride around now. Unfortunately, that is now in bits!! The plan is to reassemble the DT400 and use it with the noisy piston slap for the summer whilst keeping an eye out for a new barrel.
