I'd like to see DEET's or Enduronut's take on these...

Something tells me they might not be NOS but repaints? I'm curious about the black underside and filler rim. The Yamaha tanks I've seen barely get any paint there and it's not a different color... but the 68 has a lot of differences.

Still a very nice find... even if expensive. :likey

I have one '68 DT1 that still wears it's original paint. The filler neck is completely white up until the bare metal surface where the cap seal rubs; the underside is white and the paint thins as it rises up into the inner tunnel area, becoming nearly transparent to a bare metal color. The only evidence that the tank has black paint underneath the white is at the rear where the seat rubbing has worn away the original white to reveal the black.
I do not believe that these are original paint tanks, I think they clearly have been repainted, although they are still very nice finds.

I saw 3 used 68 DT1 tanks for sale recently. I am willing to bet these are those same 3 tanks repainted.

Being, Mr. Due Diligence,

I want you to go to this sellers recent previous eBay purchases.

I don't need to say anything more than that.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Yama-Rider's out there.

You can have multiple EBay accounts. I personally have 2. I also remember you recently posted about having 68 DT1 tanks painted. Good luck with the sale if they are yours. Definitely worth it if someone needs them.

Wow!

I am just gonna say that I am confused by the note on Marbles Motors paint, as I was under the impression that they were a 'go-to' outfit for a good paint match.

I am doing a '68 (on another thread), and will be needing to paint (at least one, if not 2 tanks. I got one as a back-up in case the original was bad). I was really considering buying his paint even despite the cost ( :EEEK :EEEK ). But now have to reconsider if it won't be right. I don't intend to get crazy, but want it to at least be darn close.

Why couldn't they have just painted them plain old white back then??B)

What you describe is how all of my original '71 and '73 tanks are.
