2K clear paint on engine side covers was created by AirborneSilva

Hey guys, does anyone know if 2K clear paint will hold up to engine heat, in particular the side covers.  I've got my side covers polished so if possible I'd like to find something so I don't have to continually polish them.  Thanks!

I used EverBright Protect-a-Clear.  Everbritecoatings.com. Covers have been used for 6 years, no issues. Great stuff.

I would go for a clear powder coating, like on alloy wheels .
Paint, in my experience, will not adhere long

Thought about powder coating, just too expensive and it does chip.  I had a set of wheels powder coated for my Challenger, cost me $600 back in 2018, they now have chips on them but still is an option.

Guess I'm old school, just repolish with Simichrome when needed, every few years if then. Once they are polished,  ;) as long as they are inside protected from the elements the polish job lasts.

Thanks Letsjet, I just got some Flitz that I used many years ago for polishing, it says it leaves a protective barrier so I'll probably just go with that for now but I really like the sound of the stuff Mark350 mentioned, it sounds like a no brainer after reading about it but for now I'm spending enough money with getting the top end worked on, cylinder re-bore, porting, new 34mm carb with performance mods, head work and maybe the V-force reeds if Rich can get them to work with my inlet bolt pattern.

All my bikes are inside my house in one room or another, I only have a car port and don't trust my neighborhood, or should I say the people that come in and out of it.  Not to mention it's too darn hot and humid to work on them outside!

Hey Tony,

A good friend of mine who is a Hodaka guy uses Flitz. He swears by it... I can relate to your comment about working outside this time of year on bikes

Hi John, I came across it in the mid 90's to use on a motorcycle I had then, did a great job.  I finally got around to attempting to start my DT400 (the Vape flywheel had spun so I couldn't keep it in time), I used some lapping compound and worked it for about half an hour until there were no more burs, anyway I got it started Tuesday morning then it just got to hot in the room I was working in, my laundry room, since very little of the AC gets into there.  Even with a fan blowing air from outside I it was just too uncomfortable for this old guy.  I need to make room next to the 250 inside the house to finish putting it back together.
