This is a rare opportunity to own an exceptionally original Japanese-market 1975 Yamaha DT400 with documented one-owner history. One of the first things collectors will notice is its red finish, rather than the yellow more commonly associated with U.S. models. I purchased the bike new in Japan in 1975 and shipped it to the United States. The red color was standard for the Japanese domestic model. Ownership and Storage History: For several years, this bike served as my primary transportation to work and school, with occasional off-road use. After college, it was placed into storage as family, home, and work became the priorities. It has always been kept in a dry indoor location. Each year, I have started and ridden it a short distance to keep everything working properly. It has only 3747 km (2345 miles) original miles. Japanese Domestic Model Features: Based on what I have observed, the primary differences between this bike and the U.S. version are: • Red factory paint instead of the typical yellow finish. • The decals on each side read “Yamaha Trail” rather than “Enduro.” • A speedometer that reads in kilometers per hour. • A red “Speed Warning” light mounted on top of the headlight housing. (Required in Japan). Originality: This bike remains more than 99% factory original, right down to the tires. The only non-original items are the fuel line to the carburetor, which was replaced due to age, and the flasher relay. Condition: The bike is in exceptional condition. The fuel tank has no dents or scratches, and the original seat is in perfect condition. The original exhaust has some surface rust, and the side cases and skid plate show expected wear from occasional off-road use. A few other areas show normal signs of use, but they could be restored to like-new condition with minimal effort. Mechanical Operation: : Everything on the bike works as it should. The engine runs strong, and the bike rides and drives like new. Documentation All original paperwork is included, including the sales invoice, importation documents, Japanese sales brochure, and owner’s manual.
