DT175 mx 1978 Kick start assembly was created by MikeK-uk
Good afternoon,
Another query - hope I’m not getting irritating!
Kick start assembly sprang out whilst trying to sort my clutch out. Now trying to figure out how to reinstall it so it works correctly.
I know i need to locate the clip into the
crankcase recess at about 12 o clock. But I’m not sure what angle the stop should be from the clip.
When I had the clip at 12 o clock and the stop at 3 o clock, the kick start does not go through full travel. Clip at 12 and stop at 9, return spring very hard to locate and wants to pop out. Stop between those two seems to work. But seems odd… is deciding the best position of stop wrt to clip a bit hit and miss (seems to me the angle affects the throw of lever and conversely ease of locating return spring)?
Something does not “feel” right to me. Is there a recommended position of stop with respect to clip, or am I doing it wrong?!
As always, thank you.
Mike

Make sure the gear is bottomed on the spiral grooves and line up friction clip and shaft stop lug, ready to fit into the case in the correct position.
Friction clip goes in deep slot at top.
Stop on the shaft butts up against the shoulder at 10 oclock.
Spring is then wound round clockwise ( maybe half a turn) and slipped into the upper of the two holes at 9 oclock. It will look like it might jump back out because it is actually held in place by the clutch cover.
Note. You may and should have a thin shim like washer that fits on the shaft. This does not go inside the cover, it covers the oil seal on the outside between the seal and the kickstart.
