Oh boy, just got the rear swing arm off. The zirc fitting is 45 years clean. Swing arm practically stuck in one position.
Rear tail light assembly is destroyed. Guy used JB weld to put it together. As I disassemble this bike, I see that only at the deepest level am I finding stock bolts. Rear fender dented but repairable.

Can't believe this bike has great spark. He did put a new source coil on it before I got it. Which way do I turn that bolt to remove the magneto? Left to loosen, right tighten?

Good news is motor has virtually no vertical moving on rod and I tested trans, so I will probably not split the engine.
Plan to replace seals and clean up everything else though. Thinking 12v replacement setup.

Pretty sure that's a standard right hand thread, so left to loosen.
The flywheel/magneto centre has a left hand thread in it (probably 27mm) and it is standard practice to use a flywheel puller to remove it.

note to self, apply grease to shaft even though no contact points. Should this be generally packed w/grease to drain to lower ball bearings?

DEET for the decal.
I recommend checking rod big end bearing by correct procedure in service manual...
Compression might have been low due to compression release if it was working or leaking.

CR not connected during testing. I'm leaning towards tearing it apart for inspection. At a min, I'll check out that procedure. Thanks.

The flywheel nut is certainly a righthand thread. There is a close fitting washer under it that needs to be slid off the crankshaft before the puller is installed in the flywheel.
It is not unusual for moisture in the crankcase to cause corrosion of the crank bearings. Does the crank rotated smoothly? If not they may need replacement.

hub/bearings appear in good shape. need to inspect closer especially seals.

pulled apart rear wheel today. plan is bead blast, polish, new spokes. trying to decide if I want to keep these wheels or put some Excel rims on it. Will know more after cleaning/polishing them.

starting cleaning the head today...found a chip in fins I didn't see before. anyone have a spare head? I can always install and use it until I find one.

nice sculpturing Schu... I may be able to do the same.
Update: working on cleaning the frame for paint and bead blasted a small section of the hub to see what it would look like.
Hub looks great. Think I will be polishing the hubs fully though.

Can one you guys w/a 360 look at the right foot peg(frame inverted) and tell me if the weld angle looks correct. Also, kickstand bracket looks twisted.
