Cylinder for 78 Yamahas Chappy was created by elmarko

Hi my name is mark
I was given a 1978 Yamaha Chappy 80cc. The  piston was frozen to the cylinder I finally removed piston from cylinder and found that  part of the cylinder broken. I am looking for a cylinder for the Chappy.
thank you

Welcome from NZ. We had lots of 80's & a few 50's too. Sold them new where i worked back in those 'good old days'. Anyway--i've been scrolling Ebay as i guess you have been too but not much luck. It's likely that a cylinder off something else Yamaha would fit but not easy to find out unless you have a friendly wrecker close by for you to compare different models of cylinder like GT80 & its similar model MX80 etc. Comparing pics of the base gasket & part number gives a clue as to what models use that gasket which shows what fits over the studs although that's not the only thing to worry about but is a start. What is broken on yours--is it the extension going into the case, if so then yeah you have a problem, or is it damage you might get away with with a bit of home engineering. Pic of the damage would be good if possible. Cheers.

Thank you for the response RT325.
yes it is the bottom part that goes into the case so I do have a problem.
i have been looking at eBay found one but some of the cooling fins of the cylinder are broke.
and I have been looking at  other sources. But we do have a motorcycle wrecking yard here in SoCal that I can call tomorrow to see if they have one.  I will take your suggestion and look at other 80 to see if they will match up.

thank you

Welcome!

Speed and Sport Yamaha in Pennsylvania has a brand new cylinder for $198.75...  I know that's probably way out of budget...

Here's one on ebay that says all fins are intact... much better price.  Anyway, good luck on your search!

P.S.  I'm not sure the ebay seller knows for sure what overbore that cylinder is on...  the ink stamping that says ".010" looks like an original marking of some sort and probably isn't the actual bore oversize....  even if it is, no guarantee it hasn't been bored beyond that.  Only way to know is accurate bore measurement.

Yes saw that one on ebay & thought exactly the same thing about the marking. Probably still standard, they never wear out. Be good if he could measure it.
Fit an early yz80 cylinder then hang on tight lol.
