TY80, GT80,DT80 clutch adjust question. was created by PDXtyist
I could sure use a hand in setting my TY80A’s clutch.
Symptoms are: rather hard to operate despite new cables. And, the clutch seems to engage at once. Not at all a gradual release into gear. It lunges at once about half way letting the hand lever out.
The manual is hard to figure out. So any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like the basket is "combed". This happens with hard riding where the tabs on the clutch friction plates wear grooves in the basket fingers.
Have you had the clutch apart?

Thanks 1971....
I haven’t yet looked at clutch. So that I can learn from this, is the combing causing the stiffest or the sudden release or all of the above?
And, I’ve seen where de-burr with a file remedies this too?? Or new plates?
Thanks.

Yes the combing will cause the tabs on the friction plates to hang up instead of moving smoothly. I have filed the burrs on clutch baskets before.
