I haven't raced a motorcycle in 18 years until this weekend. It was a spur of the moment thing that I wasn't expecting as I was offered a bike to race from an old acquaintance at the Old School TT Scrambles at Glen Helen. I haven't even rode more than around the block on my enduro a couple of times since my big get off over a year ago. I was pretty apprehensive up until I signed up in the Pre 65 350 Scrambler class. The bike I rode I had never even seen before until Sunday morning. I did some google image searches Saturday and really could find anything even remotely what I thought I was looking for. This is what I get to ride. A 1963 Jawa 350 Twin Port. Capt. Dave Rymal I know has seen this bike and I would bet RT325 has seen them down under.

What was real fun is that the shift pattern is 1 up and 3 down, something I haven't used since I had a Hodaka years ago and that wasn't in a racing situation. To say the least it was a learning experience from the shifting, quirky handling, oddly spaced gears and different power that I am used to and I only have 5 laps of practice to figure it out. The bike has a big wide two stroke power band and turns like a battle ship so I used bunches of outside lines. I finished both moto's without any crashes and only a couple of "O" crap moments going to hot into a corner in the wrong gear and shifting up instead of down. I took first in my class since I was the only one in my class. Next one is in February so I might have to get a vintage bike ready for that one.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Is it a twin cylinder bike or dual exhausts?

Single piston, twin exhaust pipes, like an early CZ twinport.

It's a great photograph suitable for a vintage motocross calendar.
