2K gloss clear in small rattle can? was created by AirborneSilva

Not sure if this belongs here or not...  I need to paint a replacement oil tank as my original leaks like an old Harley and want to clear it with 2K gloss but can't find any cans smaller than the 11 oz. cans, does smaller one even exist?  I don't want to waste probably more then 3/4 of a can if I can help it.  Thanks!

Don't know about smaller spray cans of the 2K, but if you don't use all 11 ounces if you refrigerate the remainder. It will last about 6-7 weeks with no ill effects.

Spraymax 2k makes a 7 oz clear for headlights same product that’s what I buy for small jobs. Paint store confirmed it’s the same

Next question, for my DT2 that has two stripes on the tank I've bought the decals to put on so do I spray the clear over the decals and if so do I sand the tank before putting on the decals then clear?

Hello Tony.

Originally the decals wouldn't have been clear coated over. However, a lot of restorers clear coat over them, presumably to stop them starting to peel off at the corners, which the originals eventually did.

Thanks Alan, I'll have to give it some thought about how I want to do it.

Unless you bought NOS old original Yamaha decals then you'll need to clear over them. All the repro decals I've bought specify in the directions that they must be clear coated. Probably a different material that won't hold up to Sun and weather. I've never gone against the manufacturers instructions.

Thanks, I did get repro from feebay.  Will I need to scuff the paint before clear?  I obviously will have to wait until base coat is dry before I can put the decal on so I'm thinking I need to scuff...
