I got my new tach and speedo rubber cushions from KDI today. It's always a good day when you can put something back together. Thank you KDI!

I get to hang and store another piece done!

Today's project was to clean, bead blast and prep more parts for paint, clear coat or zinc plating.

I've been thinking about how to make something to stretch out tension springs like the kick stand spring to be able to bead blast, wire wheel and zinc plate between the individual coils. I came up with this idea. It's an inexpensive clamp that can be reversed to spread or separate. I made a couple heavy gauge wire hooks and it looks like it's going to work.

So now I can use the zinc plate touch up brush to plate between the coils.

This is the easiest way I've found to paint a carburetor. A piece of PVC with enough wraps of masking tape to make a tight fit so it doesn't fall off. The carburetor is close to being scratched off the to do list!

Tell us more about the zinc plate touch up brush for plating. I have never seen that. Would like to get a set-up for myself. John

Hi johninga, I have the Eastwood zinc plating kit and the touch up brush came with the kit. As you can see, there's a brush with a piece of zinc attached with heat shrink. As long as the brush is wet with the electrolyte and in contact with the zinc anode, the electrolysis does the work! And I'm little embarrassed to say I'm still doing this using two D cell batteries. As today, I keep tell myself I need to get a 3v - 5v power supply.

Today I pulled the cylinder off to start cleaning, preping for paint and got a surprise. I'm assuming a single ring MX piston! The PO told me that the original owner had the cylinder bored to first over and new piston / rings. He and I both assumed it had the normal two ring piston. It runs very well so I'm thinking it's going to stay this way.
