I cleaned, polished and clear coated all of the aluminum handlebar stuff. Today's mission was to put the new sleeving on the wires, assemble the switches and housing. YAY! No little pieces left over!

The big brown Santa brought me new fork tubes from Franks today! I'm really happy, good quality and well worth the investment!

Usually when I start a project like this I put together some shelving to sort and organize stuff as I disassembling. This time my project got started before I was ready. This time I'm actually cleaning, preping, painting and plating as I'm disassembling and started thinking where to store stuff until it's time to reassemble. I came up with the idea of once something is finished, hang it from the ceiling. I used 1/2" EMT conduit and large eye hooks, everything should be safe and out of the way.

I'm going to be painting DT2 sheet metal for the RT. I'm thinking I'll wet sand the original with some 1000 paper and clear coat to preserve the patina.

We're going to have a couple days of snow here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This should keep me busy bead blasting, preping, painting and plating while I'm stuck inside.

It's been a nice couple days snowed in. The wood stove keeping the shop toasty warm and initial paint done and some hardware plated.

I've been trying to disconnect the six pin connector for the ignition switch cable. It's as if it has been glued together. I'm guessing after forty plus years, the plastic fused together. I had to cut the connector apart.

Using a small jewelers screw driver, I was able to remove the individual pin connectors from the old plastic housing.

I ordered a new 2.8mm six pin connector kit from Vintage Connections. The kit comes with the plastic housing and the new individual connector pins. It was really nice and easy to be able insert the original pin connectors into the new plastic housings. YAY! Like new again!

I got my homemade RT rack back from the chrome plater today.

Cool. I was thinking of doing the same thing for my RT project using a CT1 rack and cutting it up to make it fit. Did you do a thread on this modification or, if not, can you provide details on exactly what you did? Thanks!!

Can't say enough about how good, and quality Vintage Connections stuff is. Eyelets are tough, tough to crimp, even with their crimper. And the dual-bullet silver terminals are a bit thin. But, EVERYTHING else is so quality, so well made, makes me feel like a complete pro when adding new terminals, and making old new again.

Allrighty Then

There is a thread over the in lounge about my rack building hobby. I make the racks with 1/2" steel tubing and have a very simple bender.
