Dang that is one fine bike.

Having the opportunity to see it in action in Moab, I can say that without reservation! ;)

I am finally getting some time to go back to the threads that I started but have not updated with the entire restoration thread.

So will be posting up a little history on my 1972 RT2 and all the steps/ work that I performed on this bike.

This project was a little different for me as I wanted to restore this bike as an everyday rider if that make sense and to keep the original feel and look to the bike and not just do a complete paint over to make it look new.

This bike has taken me on some amazing rides from Colorado back country to Moab last year.

Hope you find the information that I am about to post enjoyable to look thru and hoping it just may motivate you to get that old RT2 sitting out back fixed up and back on the road!

So here is where it all started on acquiring my 1972 Yamaha RT2 360 Enduro.

Well- woke up this morning and was having a nice cup of coffee thinking about and looking at Vintage Yamaha Enduro's....

And there it was!! Just posted on Craigslist yesterday afternoon.

A 1972 RT2 360- Complete looking and just 500 bucks?? are you kidding me?

So called up the owner (2nd Owner of bike) to see if it was still available and indeed it was- about 20 minutes away from me- I jumped in the truck with the trailer hooked up- Tie Downs- and cash in my pocket and away I went to rescue this old girl.

Pulled up and there the bike was sitting back in the garage. So this deal was done with-in a couple of minutes.

Complete with Colorado Title- Bike was purchased by Karl the 2nd Owner about a year ago from the Original Owner who had not ridden it since 1994.

So without hesitation- I jumped on the bike- turned the fuel on- and 1st kick she fired up and sounds perfect! All of the electrical works- PERFECT!

So..... for the first time in my career I will not be restoring this bike.... I will leave it in its original condition which is very good and will be an everyday rider for me- Maybe even a EnduroFest ride one of these days!!

Of coarse a complete Wash and Detailing will take place then a good overall check to make sure everything is in perfect working order and away this bike will go on many rides.

A ton of Pic's coming your way- Bike even had the Orginal Key and Tool kit still in the Kit Holder- Just Amazing!!

So That is the story on how I found the bike and where I started with this bike.

Here is the Actual Thread of the teardown and rebuild-

Thought I would start a new thread on this bike for better focus on the Evaluation, Clean-up and Repairs as I go thru this great old bike to make sure everything is 100% right and ready for some nice summer riding.

As I have already stated- I will not be touching any of the "SILVER" Parts except for a good clean-up. They are in pretty decent shape and I do want to keep the original feel and look to the bike...

However with that said- I just cannot guarantee that I will not be putting nice little touches here and there with some painting and making the bike look as good as possible... Sorry just the way I am wired!!!!!!!

Anyway- This will be a quick project as I will go thru the entire bike to make sure it is Clean- Lubricated and most importantly Replace any parts that could cause damage to my body (ie- Brake pads- Front and Rear Tires- Cables etc...) bottom line- everything will function like new- So when I hit the trails my only worries will be to have fun!

Blah- Blah- Blah... Here is the progress I made this afternoon.
