Worm Shaft on 1972 RT2 360
Worm Shaft on 1972 RT2 360 was created by Alert
Worm Shaft not spinning rebuilt autolube pump. With the autolube pump off and engine running the worm gear spins, but, you can reach down and with two fingers hold the worm gear from spinning with the engine running. With the engine off, the worm gear can be finger spun both CW and CCW. Any help much appreciated.

Sounds like the pin is missing that locks the plastic gear to the shaft but would have thought if the nut was tight it would overcome that even though not right. So good you found it doing 'that'. Did you first notice the plastic wheel not turning? on the pump with motor running. I'll find a pic. They've drawn the pic a bit hard to follow but No3 if you imagine it in the plasic gear. Look in your oil tray, wash tray & it'll be there but easily lost.

Did you have the clutch cover off or just the pump. If it's been like it for a while & pump not pumping i guess 'that' was the problem all along. Just guessing of course.

Just have pump cover off. Been running on mixed gas but wanted to get autolube working. Looks like next cover needs to be removed to get to worm gear internal mechanism.

Yes its internal, but hope the nut hasn't dropped off so the gear has moved out a few mm then the pin will be somewhere in around the clutch or crank gear area. If you lay it over on the right side before draining the oil, then it might float it over into the cover so will be there when you remove the clutch cover. Being a solid pin it could cause some grief if it went through between any gears.

Worm gear pin was missing. The nut and washer had backed off but the gear stayed flush against the washer and had not backed away. I'm guessing PO forgot to install pin. Cover gasget looks fresh so had been accessed not to long ago. Bike did not have an autolube pump when I acquired it. Pulled cover and nut/washer were first to drop out. Worm drive gear fit snug enough on the drive to turn when engine was running, but not enough to turn autolube pump once installed.
