Thanks EN, It's buttery smooth, no radial movement. I'd say we got a while to hit .023 the .020 shim is tight. :)
The vertical lines are from the casting process.
Deet is correct about the horizontal, it's sealant.
Will continue with cleanup/paint/polished fins and reassembly... :)
Thanks to all for the help.
This site is the greatest, to say the least... :)

I just finished reading the 1978 IT175 Trail Build th'd.
Very good. So if I understand Mark T's comments on reassembly, since this is a DT series bike, SHARP EDGES/round edges or dimples, all one direction, IN/OUT, TIMING MARKS, on clutch hub to line up with protrusion on steel plates, 120 degrees apart.

pic of clutch assy before removing, gold mark is 1st timing mk identified, lower left side.

pic of hub and st'l plate to show alignment, each plate 120 from the last installed plate in the stack.

I like pic's for ref and confirmation, as the Genuine factory service manual I have does not illustrate this procedure or talk about it. That is what makes this site so valuable. The technical experts here are worth every minute I spend here.

I need to find and correct that post in the other thread...

The timing marks are 120 degrees apart but the plates are to be rotated 60 degrees...

Also... I see you've marked "timing marks" with a pen on the outer hub.

I believe the timing mark is on the inner clutch hub... you can't see it with the pressure plate installed. IIRC you line up one of the arrows with the mark on the inner hub.

(The relationship between the inner and outer hubs changes so marking the outer hub before disassembly doesn't work... you need to need to find the mark(s) on the inner hub. I think it looks like a punch mark or dimple. Take off the pressure plate and you should see the mark(s) on the inner hub. I think there might only be one.... if so, line up any of the arrows to the mark)

DOH! The timing marks on the inner hub are at #1, #3, and #5 in the picture I posted... that's what you align the outer pressure plate marks with. I usually put an inner hub mark straight up and install the pressure plate with one of the marks straight up....

There's an internally threaded post exactly every 60 degrees so you can use those to line up with.
