So I'm working on the "soap and water" restoration of the 1988 DT50 I found a few weeks ago...

The exhaust pipe mount is one of those rubber-bonded-to-metal things... of course over time it has become un-bonded. I have another one from the first "basket case" DT50 I bought... but it's not much better... not completely torn in two but almost.

And yes... Yamaha shows this part as "discontinued"... but it looked very familiar. It's the exact same exhaust mount used on the 2014 YZ85! (Actually it's probably the same mount on all years YZ85.)

The point is that if you are looking for a grommet, exhaust mount, or some other "discontinued" part, you might take a look at the new bikes at your local dealer. Yamaha might still be using the part but they failed to cross reference properly!

Salesmen/women at my local Yammy dealer get really freaked out when I look at a bike in the showroom that close. When I tell them what year bike I am working on (75), they act like I should have turned it in for scrap to aid the war effort ! So I do my best with the Partzilla diagrams. Don't overlook same year and size bikes from orher brands. Deveopement on all were very close back then. Very similar part on other bike may work for you and be available. When you reach out for help, reach out in ALL directions.

Mark - can you post a pic of that piece again, but with a ruler along side for reference? It certainly looks a LOT like the front pipe mount on the 77-78 DT400’s which I had to jury rig.

Maybe the pipe mount for the DT125A as well. Whatever made them think bonding rubber to metal was going to work? I think I epoxied mine, but I ran a bolt and nut with washers on both ends through it as well for good measure.

I just used silicone glue and the bolt/nut through the middle of it.  with a little black paint it wasn't all that noticable.  Easy fix for a runner.

Hard to believe, but the original post is almost 6 years old!  I'll have to look and see what I can find.

I put the two on my 78 DT400 back together with JB Weld and they have held up fopr about a year now.
