Trying to source the hard to get parts can be bad let alone when you are being ripped off with postage. I need the lubricating felt pad for the points on my CT1 and the exhaust gasket string, both cheap and small , I thought id use cmsnl , a good source for hard to get parts and based in Holland (im in the UK). The parts came to £5, the postage £20 !!!!!! Suffice to say I will take a trip to my nearest Yamaha dealer and see if they can still get them...the joys of classics !!!

yes postage cost stop me in my tracks on Ebay. Freight to NZ is crazy. How is it calculated or is it an automated system that some use & others go by a different calculation. I often bought bits from Montclair777 on Ebay which i think was/or is South Africa & freight was minimal.

I've read many comments about the high shipping costs in Europe, UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc. I bought a NOS exhaust from England and the cost for shipping was $28.00 to Virginia, USA. Cheaper than from Texas to Virginia.

Just an FYI.... the US Postal Service will not allow the shipment any item of any value in an international letter.
Their website says that the value of anything in the envelope cannot exceed $0.

Even if you are sending a gift, the item in an international envelope has to be of ZERO value.

Ebay likes their sellers to ship internationally , via their Global Shipping program .
That increases costs at least 50 % over USPS charges . In short Ebay is clipping the ticket .
Some vendors will send direct , and bypass the Global shipping , making it a bit more
affordable .
Another thing is to sign up with a US based Forwarding Agent , where your goods are
shipped there , and they send them on to you . With many ebay sellers offering free
shipping within US , it can save you money .

I used to buy loads in The Usa ,and shipped to UK , but the postage has killed it, and the £ - $ rate is pants now, i bought a DT400C From Brads bike [Georgia] in 2007 ,,he shipped it to uk for 600$ . at that time it was 2.08 Dollars to the £ , , which reminds me ,when i went to the Bank here, to transfer funds , it was to WELLS-FARGO, and the girl behind the counter had never heard of them , i said didnt you watch the old Western film"s ,

I carried in an airbox for an IT490 to USPS for an estimate to ship to Australia a month ago. The box wasn't entirely small, and only weighed 3 lbs. $64 through USPS, $360 Fedex and UPS. I don't believe all shippers are screwing people buying stuff from the USA, alot of it is shipping costs have gone nuts. I shipped a minimalized box to hold a DT1 pipe from California to the east coast...$65. I have no connections, apparently.
