Good work getting the Yamaha back together and running again.

The RX7 is a sporty car that's fun to drive.

Be aware that they are costly to operate and repair. The gas mileage is very poor for the size of the car because the engines are not efficient. They also have an oil injection system that consumes oil.

I purchased an RX4 in the early 1980's with farly low miles and a dead engine as a rebuild project.

It was an expensive rebuild because nearly all the major parts of the engine require replacing because they cannot be refurbished or made "oversized" like on a piston engine. From what I recall, the crankshaft and front cover were the only parts of engine "block" that where reused.

But I must say it was a very interesting project and 13B engine (that was stock with a four barrel carburetor) was fun to run through the gears and hear the rotary sing.

It was certainly MUCH more expensive to complete than a Yamaha Enduro.

I agree w/Rick, find a Baja bug or something, Don't buy that Mazda unless it runs. a 900 dollar car of this catagory should run. I had one givin to me years ago, had lo miles & brand new tires. The fuel system was plugged up, I bypassed it just to get it to run, carb was also NFG. I gave it back after I talked to a carb specialist friend about RX7 4 bbl carbs. The only one I ever drove was a pick up w/rotery, reved forever, but it was new. There's a reason you don't see older RX7s.

I will 3rd the Baja Bug. The money it would take to get the Mazda functional would be better in a bug. They retain there value and are fun to play with. I'm building one slowly.

I dont mean to crush your dreams but a kid your age without a job just grass cutting money dont have any business with a car much less a rotory engine car.
Money money money and more money going to be 100 times more expensive than a DT250 to fix and trust me you will end up with a car that dont run and needs a 4000.00 or way more rebuild

Wow! that's an intricate cage design! U tied into rear torsion bar tube in middle and outboard as close as you can get to spring plates? This is a high stress area (don't ask me how I know this) when you run bigger bars. Brace ft. as well, make those clamp on Your gonna have fun with this! I really miss mine, may build another, cases, cranks & stuff still reasonable (semi) for 2ltr+ motors. An old 2ltr (914/bus ) has a very durable case much stronger than type 1 style. Aluminum V6 works well too, keep injection!
