Hey guys,
New to these forums but appreciate all the great info provided here.
I recently picked up a 72 R5C in need of lots of love. I’m looking for a replacement headlight, everything I see out is 5 3/4 or 7”. I measure mine at 6”.
Anything out there that’s available for these bikes?
The funky handlebars are already gone by the way.

There's a Honda light that was still available new and fit... I'll have to look at home if I have the part number.

You might also check Yamabits in the UK or John at Economy Cycle in Texas

I think that the Honda model that Mark was referring to is the Honda Superdream from late seventies or early eighties.

Link to the Yambits headlight for the air cooled RD350 is attached in case this is any good to you (don't know if it will fit US spec bikes).

Econocycle do replacement coils for R5 / RD 350 .
I used one of their replacement coil sets for a RD 400 C a while back ,
and they work well , and match physically too .

Coils would be the last thing to pack up on those--especially two crook coils. Tell us more, does she not run. Bought one accident damaged back in the day. Pretty easy fix but no-one put in a tender for it at work so the insurance assessor probably told me how much they needed & deal done. Must've been cheap for me to buy it lol. Loved that bike & in later years i got an RD400 much the same way at work. Quite depressing thinking about all the bikes i should never have sold haha.

The R5 and RD coils are failure prone in my experience... and not very good when they work.... at least on the US bikes. I second getting them from John at Economy... he sells good ones.

John used to honor a discount code of "2SW"... but that forum owner didn't pay the fees and didn't let anyone take over (hosting company would not accept payment from anyone else, people tried) so it's gone... An incredible amount of great two stroke information was lost... mostly RD and street bike info... Couldn't hurt to see if the discount code is still good.

I put some of my R5/RD stuff in storage and it looks like the Honda headlight is there too.. it was from a late 70's to 90's Honda IIRC... "Shadow" comes to mind as the model but I can't be sure. I might go to storage this weekend and will take a look.

So far no spark,I am waiting on points and condensors but had read it was common for the coils to go bad. I checked the coils and only got 4=5ohms and I believe they should be at 10ohms. This bike has been sitting since 1980 after the original owner had a little accident. I've straightened the forks along with headlight and mounting ears which were all damaged in the accident.

FYI discount code still works for Economy Cycles, thanks for all the advice and info. I just ordered coils, carb kits and some other misc goodies. John@economy cycles didn't have a head light for my bike so I'm still looking.
