1981 Yamaha DT175 Oil Tank Plumbing #1
Good day all,
I'm new to this site and have recently purchased a basket case 1981 Yamaha DT175. Since the bike was a true basket case I decided to strip the frame and repaint. Now in process of putting it back together trying to see where things belong by viewing pictures in a Clymer Manual. However, it does not address proper routing of electrical harness, cables or oil hoses. I have been able to do a fairly good job of getting most things correctly installed, but was hoping someone could tell me where the top oil tank outlet hose goes...I assume (you know what that means) that it is nothing more than a vent line, but would hate to be wrong...Proper routing would be preferred. I was also wondering if anyone has a picture of the correct electrical routing as well. Much appreciate any assistance you may have.

Current bikes include a 1971 Bultaco Pursang ( haven't ridden it since I joined the USAF in 1978). It was also 1978 that I became the 2nd owner of my 1971 Norton Commando and my 1976 Triumph Bonneville. Additionally, I have a 2006 Harley Softail Deluxe. My wife has had her 1993 Honda Night Hawk since 1999 and has just recently purchased a new 2020 Triumph t100 Bonneville. I have also just purchased a 2001 Honda xr100r. The purpose of the Yamaha and the xr100r is to get our teenage kids involved with motorcycling...
Thanks, Ron

That sort of detail is the the Factory Service Manual . Check the Tech library .
There could well be a copy in there . I think 79 , 80 and 81 were very similar .

Vent hose goes forward from tank up along frame and tucks behind tank puck bracket.

The wiring is outlined very well in the factory service manual as Swoop said. You need the 1980 supplement in Tech Library. 80 and 81 are the same. 78 and 79 had a different oil tank and air filter set up. The 1978 manual in Tech Library cover most of your bike, 80 supplement covers changes.

I've marked the oil line with red arrows in one of the diagrams from the 1980 supplement as it's not really called out.

Mark T, Thanks for the diagram it helps a bunch - good to see that my assumption was correct about it being a vent tube, but never would have guessed that they would run it all the way up to the front of the engine... I see from the diagram that I can use this to properly route electric bundle as well. Thanks again, ron
