Norcal member introduction #1
Hi all,

Norcal here. 2019 has been an interesting year that has reintroduced me to the early Yamaha DT series of motorcycles. I have great memories of these machines as a kid because I had an uncle with one that was cool enought to let us enjoy during Christmas holidays and other family get togethers.

I have picked up 2 1969 DT1's this year.

One from the original owner. It is currently disassembled and in process of complete restoration. It can be seen as found in 1st picture.

The second was purchased in poor running condition, and I have been using for reference during the build of the other machine and to familiarize myself with proper maintenance practices required to make these machines run well.

I plan on submitting a subsequent new post requesting feedback regarding Ignition Timing. I know it is a subject previously written about, but I would like to approach topic from another angle.

Looking forward to being a participant in the learning process.

Regards,

Norcal

Welcome! from the UK. Nice finds.

Is that a DT3 tank on the bike in the first picture?

Yes,

The tank is from a later model. Can't validate the model you stated however. Bike did not come with the correct tank or front fender. I have already acquired a correct tank and have that green tank on the shelf. It does have a liner inside that needs to be removed. Otherwise it is usable.

Sounds like we'll have to get out when the weather gets better and they're ready to ride!

Sounds good Darin. I'm invested in the learning process at this time with a principle focus on making the running DT1 roadworthy.

I also have a few old bikes, and appreciate the machines and the process of maintaining, and when required restoring them.
