So tomorrow morning my wife Kris, our dog Lucy and I will be heading to Mortimer, NC. The bikes are loaded, Kris's 250A and the RT2 for me. I'm really looking forward to spending some time on the RT. It's been a long time (mid 70's) since my first RT. It looks like were going to have awesome early fall weather and a great drive through the Appalachian Mountains.

Lucy is excited, she knows! Shes a traveling girl and she knows when we're go'n somewhere.

Out on another foresr service road,

The local Walmart,

And Betsey's Ole Country Store in downtown Mortimer! My wife and I first started coming here spending weekends riding about 15 years ago. Very little if anything has changed at Betsey's or the whole surrounding area, and thats a good thing!

There' nothing fancy about Betsey's Ole Country Store, cabin rentals and campground. It is a rustic, clean and comfortable place to spend a few days for some great riding. With the network of Pisgah National Forest service roads, linville Gorge Wilderness access roads and state / county maintained dirt / gravel roads you can ride several different loops of up to 100+ miles. Or you can ride shorter loops of 10 or 20 miles. It dosen't mater if you do a short or long ride, there's a lot awesome mountain scenery!

The cabin,

The teepee,

The campground and trout pond,

And the bathhouse. I like rule #4 of the campground rules,

Looks like killer riding! The Appalachia is some really beautiful area to ride in. Only seen a bit of it on our trans America trail trip, but loved it!
