Starting a project from my bucket list. Picked this up last Friday at a good price. I had been looking for a single 2-stroke to build so this seemed to come together at the right time. The first thing I did was have a title search done & then have it titled (for $12 more I got plate & tags).
Then I started stripping her down for the transformation to fast pavement. I see that some bracing on the frame is required and I want to relocate the shock mounts so then lay down a little more. I'm ditching the stock front end and putting one from a 70 350 yamaha. I was going to use the 7" from the 350 but scored a Suzuki 8" dual lead brake that might work a little better, it's a big brake.
I have a set of 19" rims to lace up, a WM2 front & a WM3 rear but before that a lot of polishing on the DT rear brake plate & drum. The 8" need minor polish.
I'll try to take a few pics as she goes along and I'll have a few DT1 parts I won't be using. I'm saving the motor to last just because it is the most fun part :) Here's some as is stuff, one of cutting off the old rim. I'll post pics of the wheel stuff later.

I would be interested in seeing the front forks as well as the triple clamps and top chain guard, if you're considering selling them.

The square swing arm has about 1/4" off set to the drive side. Where it mounts to the frame it has an additional 1/4"+ at the mounting boss. Is the offset normal? Most have equal sides. If anyone has a pic of a stock swing arm could you post it?

Other than that I'm playing polish guy today on the hubs & backing plates. I don't know if I'll get to the cases but at least all will be sand blasted today. The SS spokes won't be in until after the weekend but looking forward to that!

Square arm is std for the early DT1's. Not sure sure about different offset but that's interesting. Yours has the right rear wheel which they should never have changed as these have the sprocket carrier with a bearing as opposed to the 'forever wearing out' hub extension from about "70 on. Lost my wheel damn it. Basically what happened was it sat out the back of a shop & bits got stolen & when i found it [bought it] i just got frame, motor, front forks & tank. Crying shame as i assembled that one new--& broke my leg on it when i borrowed it off the boss for weekend--had a GYT race kit fitted [well i fitted it on assembly so boss could go racing] , man i miss those days. The square arm on bosses & mine i bought the next tear we lengthened by an inch as were the US instructions at the time. Time when everything was being modified.

Thanks for the info! I would love to find a GYT kit cylinder for this! My brother & I GYT kitted a Yamaha 100 twin in a Van Tech frame in 1969, it went from mild to screaming!!
I can port this Iron one but I know it won't do as well
