DT250 Street tracker, sort of was created by MrBernzo

I started this build some time ago and posted in the 74 to 76 twin shock forum before I knew about the customs!

DT250 1974 back from the brink

Anyway, I got the bike up and running, all necessary lights etc to make it legal and then registered it. It satin that state for nearly a year while I dealt with other priorities in life.
Now it's time to get back into it and get this thing finished off.
Since getting it running, it has not run properly, idles well and runs well st low revs, but higher in the range it lacks power and two stroke zip. It also doesn't change down gears well. So I decided to do this properly and strip the engine down, check the gear box and gear change mechanism, replace all oil seals, the crank seals and all gaskets etc.
Once done I plan to check the engine to ensure its running perfectly then strip the bike down, paint and polish.

The engine is striped down and nearly ready to split the crank case. Will check all bearings while in there too.
This bike didn't have an oil pump on it either so I will add a pump too.

This will be an 80% street bike. The tyres are street legal and should give a good level of grip..... I hope!

Well, the oil pump shaft does not fit. It must be for a later bike. These one I need slots directly into the crank shaft. There is a few on eBay. I might need to go that route.

When I pulled the clutch apart, I was expecting to find a ball bearing in with the push rod. None in there..... Clutch works fine. Am I missing something?

there should be a ball between the push rod & the actuator at the clutch end (internal). Make sure it's not still in the hole? It wil work without but will burn up the ends to blue steel

Not all models had a ball in between two pushrods. On some, Yamaha rounded off the end of the pushrod.

On your model, if you were missing a ball, the clutch would not work... there isn't enough adjustment to make up for it.

My pushrod has rounded ends. I will keep an eye out for the ball bearing but assuming it doesn't have one for now.

It looks like I have solved my gear change problem, the mechanism just needed some minor adjustment.
Now for a bigger problem. The crank seals I brought last year are clearly too small. The eBay listing says they should fit all models 1974 to 1979 buy the packing says 1975 to 79.
Damn it. It seems to be hard to find parts for this model at times
