Can't really go wrong. Just fit it up to the marks where the screws have left a mark on the back plate, Tighten the flywheel good & proper with crank key in place. She'll be good.--We'll--that what i'd do lol.

If the VAPE kit fits a DT250/400 it should fit your IT just fine.

I think it should work as well.
I emailed vape and was told they do not make any kits fot IT models.
The part numbers are slightly different 500 vs 510.
I am hoping to get it installed today and fire her up. I will update this post.
Thanks again for the timing spec.

I had a lot of conversations with the original founder of Powerdynamo before he sold to VAPE for health reasons.

He had a dream of bringing old bikes back to life by producing ignitions (he called it "the heart") to replace broken, unreliable, and unobtainable original systems.

He faced a lot of challenges because they had to rely on unreliable measurements from customers... and sometimes old bikes that had modifications like someone re-machining the crank taper.  I think they had over a dozen kits for the early Yamaha 125/175 Enduros and didn't even have listings for all the models...  he sent me some parts and we were able to come up with three kits that fit all the 125/175 enduros from 69-81...   and the three kits also should fit most of the YZ/MX/IT 125's and 175's up through about 1978-79 as well as the 100cc enduros....  Even the US RT180 and RT100 from the 1990's.  (I didn't have an example of every bike and I suspect a later YZ there could be ignition cover mods needed).  Edgar documented the bikes I thought the kits should fit but didn't catalog them unless/until it was installed on a bike...  and I don't have all those models.

On the 250/360/400, another member here (Dman?  Mako would know) helped develop the original kit for a DT400...  and I'm pretty sure it will fit the entire range of 250/360/400's from 68 to 79 including most if not all the MX, YZ's and IT's.

If you verify the kit fits your IT, Please let VAPE know...  I've never dealt with them but it's really nice that they still make new parts for the old bikes.  There is a limited market so the more they can sell the more likely they will continue to stay in business  selling new ignitions to get these old machines running.

So far so good!

I am going to run a few heat cycles before I ride her around the neighborhood. But I will report to vape after a proper shake down.

I like it, an IT motor and a set of Curnoots. You can't go wrong in that chassis.

The 510 left hand crank wheel has a different radius than the 500 where the shaft meets the crankwheel...  supposed to take a special crank bearing with a larger radius on the bearing inner ring so the bearing can slide all the way on.

The larger radius bearing part number works on both...  and looks to be specified for both...  but if you use a "standard" 6306 from a bearing supplier you could have trouble with the 510 crank

Inner race should be marked with 83913 if it has the larger radius.  Yamaha part number 93306-30615-00 is supposed to have the larger radius...

93306-30614-00 does not have the radius and should only be used with 500 crank.
