78 IT400E Starter question #1
Putting the cases back together and I noticed this machine hole below the starter gear. I don’t remember anything going there. Any ideas?

78 IT400E Starter question #2
Don't know. Was wondering initially if there's a de-compressor operated by kickstart & there's an arm to pull the cable sitting there but forget that idea. Here's a pic showing where the spring hooks but i'm sure you knew that. & i also initially thought that plate should bolt up on the other bit shown that looks 'that' shape--but no, wrong again lol.

Just to further confuse, here's another random ebay pic showing nothing in that area. Hit the link & shows the other side.

No, don't forget that idea. :)

YZ, IT, DT were all based on the same castings... DT400 has a pin that the decompressor lever/bellcrank thingy pivots on in that hole.... might not be used on the IT but still there...

Just like the 77-79 IT175 center case has the hole for the DT175 tach drive gear shaft all machined but no shaft installed...

I’m guessing now that it might have been used at the factory in the machining process. Oh well it’s buttoned up and back in the frame now...

Used for the auto decompression linkage that similar models (DT400) came with.

Thank you for that answer! I figured it was something on a shared model.
