DT175 tank question #1
Hi, first post looking for some advice.
I just got a 1976 DT175C that came with a later MX tank.
Does anyone know if the tank in the link will fit my 76 bike. I know its for a 74 with a different part number but hoping it is the same dimensions and will fit as I'm struggling to find the correct tank for my new bike.

Thanks for any help.

DT175 tank question #3
1976 had a brand new frame design... one year only in the USA. I'm not sure if the tank is the same as 74-75. I have a spare 75 tank and a 76 bike but the tank is in storage 3 hour round trip from here. Can't check it out until the weekend or next week.

Hey Mark, firstly thank you for responding.
Trust me there's I'm in no rush. If you get a chance to check out the fitment that would be awesome.
This is my first foray into the world of DTs and I feel like I picked the one model with the hardest to find parts!
Truly thanks, Peter.

DT175 tank question #5
I just wanted to point out the auction listing shown above is actually a 1975 DT175B tank not 1974 DT175A.

DT175 tank question #6
I know the DT 175C tank is different then the 1974 DT175A,1975 DT175B tanks. Could a 1974/75 tank fit onto a 1976 frame? I'd have to check! but like MarkT.... I have multiple bikes in multiple locations (Horder Syndrome) Hopefully you get the information you need.

.
I have both bikes here, but night has fallen . . . . I will check tomorrow
I'm 90% sure the 75 tank that you pictured will not fit your 76 model . . . the 76 tank's appearance was longer and slimmer looking!
I can sell my 76 tank, but I've heard that trying to ship a fuel tank overseas is next to impossible with all the government regulations in place today.

.

After getting a better close-up view of your avatar photo, the bike looks more like our US 75 model ??
I'm not sure what the different year models looked like in the UK regions, but if you haven't done so yet, it might be a good idea to verify the model year by the vehicle's serial number . . . "before" you start purchasing parts.

DT175 tank question #9
Thanks for posting Devin! I was just searching for this thread and you made it easy to find! Perfect timing! :likey

Peter,

Following up to our PM's, I did get over to pick up the tank tonight. At first, I was very optimistic! From the top the 1975 and 1976 tanks look very close with the 1975 tank being a bit more "bulbous" for lack of a better way to describe.

Pulled the 1976 tank... frame prefix 559... tried to install the 1975 tank which had a frame prefix 443. No go. Even the gap between the "pucks" on the front mount of the 1975 tank are too narrow to fit the 1976 frame. Not just a little bit... about 10mm or so narrower.

The pucks on the 1976 are further forward and down as well. One good thing is the tunnel opening is shaped significantly differently so you can easily identify the 1976 tank... wider and straighter opening. So many people list things incorrectly so hopefully this info will help!

Left tank below is 1976 (559) and tank on right is 1975 (443). Wish it was better news! Hope you find a suitable tank soon!
