Hi I am trying to find a tacho cable. I bought one but it will not fit in the mechanism on top of the gearbox, its too big, I think its for a DT250MX not for a "B"
I have googled around but everywhere seems to be out of stock. Not a really big deal but a "nice to have"
Fowlers dont have one and CMSNL dont either.
Does anyone have a lead on one?
Yamaha part number 4388356001
Thanks
Adam.

It’s worth a punt at that price but it still looks like the business end where it screws in to the tachometer fitting on top of the gearbox is too fat. Will order one and let you know.

Mr VT

This one in the photo off CMSNL looks correct, as does the one that Yammiedodger referred to.

Thread into the crank case is 15mm, the knurl above it is 14mm and length of the inner cable approx. 820mm. Make sure you press the cable firmly into the crank case recess first, otherwise the thread might not "catch".

If you still think cable thread is too large, check out what the engine number is, just in case anyone has done a swap!

Good luck.

Heres a pic of the top of the gearbox (before I cleaned it all up) showing the tacho drive.
All standard and original. I think...

That's a 10mm hex bolt head alongside it and so it looks to me the correct 15mm thread recess. Have you measured the diameter of the threaded end on the cable that you've got and think is incorrect?

Interesting that the engine number for your bike is stamped on the right hand side, whereas for my 1974 DT360A (which shares the same tacho cable) it is on the left.

Yes Mr V/t" Most cables on ebay are too short, [ dt250 400 mx] as the mono shock tacho drive is at the front of engine [ beside oil pump] ,for my twinshock,[ 513-000] DT400 I took the inner out of a H2 kawasaki, and cut up two of the ebay cable outers , to the correct leanth, . and joined them, the joint is below the tank ,so not seen ,,
