Hmm, blowing bulbs shouldn't relate to no spark, well not that i can think of. I'm guessing its a magneto system & not a 125 electric start DC system with a 175 top end fitted?
Yamaha on some early models had a strange way of earthing the ignition source coil in the mag via the lighting coil or coils. Not sure of my facts any more though on that one.

Hi thanks
Will get the stator off and see if it is sparking at the points
Just thought the blowing of bulbs might be related
Not getting a spark at the plug now anyhow
Kill switch
Ignition coil
Anything else maybe to look for?
It died pretty quickly, no loss of performance beforehand
Thanks in adv
D

If it's truly a 1976 it should have a voltage regulator under the gas tank... would be very rare to blow bulbs if connected and working.

..so changed the plug out and braaap it started however wasn't really running right so have changed out rectifier and ignition coil anyways and much better but struggling for air and not revving out, without filter goes like stink, seems like the air filter cage is missing making the filter not sit in the airbox correctly, have magaged to locate a filter cage somehow and will update thanks all D

Ok this is where it gets weird..new ignition cpil, plug and regulator, bulb etc, started and ran really well, idled perfectly with loads of braap, couple of days later, no start, spark plug I think is bad again, will spark occasionally on engine casing but only occasionally, plug doesn't look fouled..am thinking maybe too lean blowing out spark plugs? Crank.seals?

Picture of your regulator and how it's connected would be helpful.

Lots of counterfeit spark plugs out there. Just a possibility if you bought online.

Not likely for a plug to go bad because too lean. Engine damage tends to happen first. It would be nice if plug would fail first. It would be a lot cheaper.

Pictures of plug would help too.

For spark plugs I use NGK in my bikes, if you get non counterfeit NGK plugs they are far less likely to foul than fake NGK and most other brand spark plugs. I have a hunch your bike takes a B8ES NGK plug. here is a link to identifying counterfeit NGK plugs.
