1979 DT250F carb / rebuild kit was created by tjn8080

Can anyone point me to the carb model used on this bike and also a rebuild kit for the carb.  The information I have been able to uncover on the web is a little confusing.  Thank you in advance!

To ensure an accurate reply, probably best to post up what part of the world the bike originated in (eg US, Europe, Australia/New Zealand).

What I can say is don't use brassware from the kits - a lot of original parts are still available from Yamaha/Mikuni.

The bike was purchased in the US and has lived its life in the US.  I'm a bit of a newbie, so can you direct me to Yamaha/Mikuni to research parts for my bike?

Wherever you get your rebuild kit from MAKE SURE you ONLY use Mikuni jets. Places like Niche Cycles, RMATV, Partzilla, and local Yamaha dealer can help you.

I recently rebuilt the carb on my 78 DT250E and was able to buy everything I needed from RMATV. Years ago I gave up using carb rebuild "kits" after getting wrong and poor quality parts. Follow the link above, input your bike information and take a look at the 'CARBURETOR' schematic.

Can anyone point me to a carb cleaning instruction/primer (either here or elsewhere) for bikes like mine (or mine specifically).  Again, I'm a relative newbie, but why can't I do some of this stuff myself, right?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, folks!

I found some good youtube videos where they actually break down a mikuni carb and take all the jets out, describing what each one does along the way.  type in your carb model in youtube and see what pops up.

Have you completed the rebuild yet, or can you come back with your experience once you do? Do you have a '79?
