EBC Clutch BASKET tool 1978 DT400 was created by DT400FRANK

I ordered a EBC clutch basket tool on ebay but it appears that the it may be the wrong tool for my 1978 dt400.

Are the clutch baskets the same for 1976 and 1978.  Thanks

The tool will work if it fits where the clutch plates sit inside the clutch basket.  That is because the 76 and 78 use the same clutch plates.

Partzilla shows the 76 and 78 have different part numbers for the clutch basket.

Well after further research EBC seems to only offer there clutch basket removal tool for the dt250.

Do you still think it will work for a 1978 dt400?

Well apparently this ebay seller is very mixed up and they even have the part numbers screwed up.

Get motion pro 08-0008 or tusk pliers made for this...  fits any basket and has pins for flywheel.

I could see that tool would be helpful to undo the crank gear nut although its putting a hell of a lot of strain on the basket fingers. But if inserted right to the back it'd be strongest point for the fingers. Think i'll stick to dropping a semi thick alloy strip between the crank & basket gears to undo or tighten the crank nut. Sorry off the subject.

RT one of the main reasons I wanted this tool was to use it to try and remove the crank pinion nut also. I was also thinking of the stress on the basket fingers also.
And thanks also MARKT

Yes, for crank pinion nut the motion pro tool isn't good.  I use an impact to loosen primary nut most of the time and have always managed to torque it back with a combo of clutch assembled/bike in gear and jamming gears with a penny.
