Hello new here ladies and gentlemen. Picked up a project 1979 DT 175. Was told it was rebuilt recently. Evidence in box of parts it was at one point. Anyway runs fantastic it was hard to shift with a slight grinding noise when letting clutch most of the way out. Also like it was skipping teeth on sprocket.

Upon closer inspection. The back side of the clutch basket is rubbing on the neutral adjustment bolt head? Any ideas everything moved freely shifts fine without the basket. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Welcome!

Thrust washer under clutch doesn't look missing so maybe mixed up with the one that goes in between the inner and outer hub?

Also, you said that it's rubbing adjustment screw but pic looks like you think it's rubbing linkage rivet?

If it's rubbing screw, someone possibly didn't thread it in far enough. I can't tell from your pic. It's an eccentric screw and needs to be threaded in pretty much all the way and then backed out to adjust. Full range of adjustment is available with one revolution of screw.

Ok thank you I guess it's the rivet on the arm above the adjustment screw. Not sure of all the part names. I put an arrow on the parts that are rubbing. Would I have to split the case to get to the other side to possibly tighten it down? Also Ill try swapping the washers

No splitting cases needed.

I wish you had picture of the crank gear and clutch gear alignment with the basket in place and a picture of how the "claw" on the linkage is centered on the shift drum pins.

Also a close up of the area I circled... and from the top if possible. There's a bushing there that can be installed on the back side and needs to be on the front side. Easy fix if that's it.

Unfortunately none of the current pictures show the possible problems areas well enough...

I think it's going to be a simple fix though. Fingers crossed!

Looks like the "claw" isn't right up against the outer washer or anything... so leaning towards clutch basket thrust washer is wrong.

Slide the basket all the way down and see how the gears align height-wise.

And check other thrust washer. One is thicker than the other.... and can assemble with washers mixed up... if I remember correctly.

Ok so here's a couple of pictures and a video. Ordinarily I would never run it like this but for illustration purposes. Also the thicker thrust washer is against the case and the thinner one is between the clutch basket and hub
