What kind of Oil do you use in the gearbox? I've been using Rotella but it's getting harder to buy the quart containers.

I use Silkolene Semi-Synthetic 10W40 in all my bikes, 2 & 4 strokes.....seems good.

I used a good dino oil the 1st year I raced and wore out a new trans. Everytime I drained the oil I had micro chips. I now run Lucas full synth (for clutches) in 10-40 and have not seen any wear.

I like Mobil One motorcycle oil, 10W40, in my DT, Honda CB and GL, and 20w50 in Norton.

Thanks Mark

Might sound crazy but for me it varies by the bike. Normally synthetic but the '72 suzuki ts185 seems to shift well with anything but you can never find neutral. '72 Yamaha ct2 175 seems a bit clunky with all oils but easier to find neutral. '06 xt225 did not like synthetic at all and shifts much better with dino oil for whatever reason (yamalube at the moment.)

Actually now Honda recommends there Dino oil on the GL1800, the synthetic would cause premature clutch slippage.

So really the only good oil Is lard, good for baking and frying. :ROFLOL

Thanks Mark

The guys at my local Yamaha shop told me to use Trans-Oil Plus by Yamaha, for use in wet clutch transmissions.
