I picked up a 1978 DT125E from original owner that has been barn sitting for years. I cleaned the fuel shut off, replaced fuel line and inline filter, removed carb and check float to make sure not stuck. Everything looked surprising fine with the carb. No debris or gunk in the bowl. Float moved freely up and down. I removed the reed valve assembly and the reeds check out fine according to my manual. Installed new sparkplug and getting spark but the bike won't even try to fire. I sure hate to pull the carb back off because installing it was a bear. After quite a few kicks, I removed the sparkplug and it was a little wet with fuel but still would make spark.
I check compression by holding my finger over the sparkplug hole and seems to be ok even thought I can't confirm since I don't have a compression gauge.
I'm open for suggestions from the knowledgeable people on this forum!
Thanks! Craig

I removed the spark arrestor and looked down the pipe. No obvious signs of blockage.

Carb might have looked clean but pilot jet and starter jet in float bowl well could be restricted. The later models don't start well without the starter circuit.

Also make sure plug is wet with fuel and not oil. Bikes that sit tend to fill up crankcase with oil that slowly bleeds past the check valve.

I'd pull the pipe off and see if bend full of oil and if it's spitting oil out exhaust when kicking over.

No oil on plug but did notice white smoke coming out of the exhaust as I was kicking. Should you be able to turn over by hand using the kicker pretty easy? I have the bike on a lift and I can hand crank very easily using the kick starter. I'm wondering if compression is an issue?

Check your air filter. Mine had an old foam filter that was disintegrating...small pieces of it were getting sucked into the carb in my case. you can always remove the filter and try to start it in the garage just to see if it will start. Good luck!

I put a brand new filter in before trying to even start this bike. I check that the first day I brought the bike home and it was all disintegrated.
