Hello again
As I remove the Carb on my DT3 again I can’t help but eyeball the reed cage on my 02 YZ250 and think to my self...will it fit?
Maybe some fab required or an adaptor plate?

I did a search with no luck to see if any of you found an aftermarket reed cage that fits and converted the Carb holder to a rubber spigot type that allows a modern VM or even a PWK Carb

If you have some info or even better pictures that would be awesome!

I'll have to go check as I have not spent much time on it yet but I think my '72 RT 360 has one of those installed.

Yikes, their proud of that one judging by price. I'll be looking into one if I can't find a 30mm carb w/flange mount I'll need w/gyt cylinder, piston & head installed (soon)

If it does, very unlikely it is stock, at least not on the enduro models. Maybe the RT2MX has a rubber mount.

The 74 DT250's and 360's have reed setup with spigot mount carb... Would need some specific measurements to see if it would adapt...

Mikuni makes a simple two bolt rubber flange that will convert stock manifold to a spigot carb. I have a 250 manifold and adapter flange here someplace... it was a very common thing to do to convert the early flange carb bikes to spigot mount.

Challenge with the "all rubber" manifolds (other than the price) is the offset, angle, and size of carb. Hard to find one that will line up and fit a carb that will still fit and line up with the airbox boot.

Forgot... I'm 99.99% sure that 73-74 250/360 MX manifold has the wrong bolt pattern for your 72-73 250.

That MX manifold would fit the 74 DT250/360 models as far as bolt pattern... the 74 DT250/360 redesign was based on the redesigned 73 MX engine with a different reed cage. (The DT's were very much "detuned" versions of the Yamaha MX race engines)

It would probably fit 75 and 76 DT250/400's too... then in 77 the 250/400 reed design was changed again.

The 72-73 250/360 had a bolt pattern that's the same as the later 70's YZ125/IT175 and going way more modern... the YZ85.

Interesting, so then possibly, installing a reed cage for the 85 with aftermarket reeds may be a worthy upgrade to broaden the power a bit.

Not sure the YZ85 cage will fit. It might be too big for the DT opening. I was just talking bolt pattern.
