Im collecting parts for my 1969 CT1B resto. The bike has white grommets on some of the frame components which i assume are original items, however the front fender grommets are black, would they have originally been white? In fact would all of the rubber grommets have been white, if not does anyone have specific info on which should be in what colour?

For a start your CT1 B is a 70 . I'm pretty certain your front guard grommets were still white
then . Just checked period brochures to confirm . They changed to black in 71 .
I'm not really sure about other grommets on the chassis . My 69 DT1 has old perished white
grommets on the battery box , which I presume were original , but on the oil tank they were black .
I've studied pictures on period magazine tests , and they look black there too , but I can't be certain .
I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm , as quite a few of the guys have a sort spot for this
model .

Hi Swoop, thanks for the reply.
Although I am aware the CT1B is a 1970 model year bike my headstock vin sticker shows date of manufacture as 12/69 so being pedantic it is a 1969 bike ?

In fact a reasonable number of 70 model year bikes were produced in Japan through the course
of 1969 . It took anywhere from a month to six weeks to ship across the Pacific .
Most people date their bikes by the model year , despite the fact that some may have been
built in the tail end of the previous calendar year .
I don't think the CT1 changed much year to year , ( of course I may be wrong AGAIN ),
but the DT1and RT1 had changes all through the production years , so accurately identifying
the correct model is a bit more important there .

I too am curious about the correct answer to your thread topic as my ‘70 CT1B has 950 original miles and black grommets ?

DEET is the expert but I believe the 1970 models started production in the first half of 1969... The minority would have been produced in early 1970.

I guess it is possible that Yamaha changed from White to Black in the
course of the year . They conceivably had a couple of production runs .
